Summer is here! Finally. We’ve been having so much rain lately, I’m glad to be able to go out and have some fun. One of my favourite patios in the city is the patio at the Fairmont Hotel Macdonald. I was invited to give the new summer menu a try.
We were seated on the patio, which has great views of the river valley. It’s crazy how much space there is and how open it is, given that it’s right in the heart of the city. We were treated to choice appetizers by Chef Mridul to start off the evening. For the new menu items, we were given choice of Sunworks farms Chicken, seared sable fish, Sacchetti, and aged Ribeye.
For appetizers, we were given a mixture of things. The Harvest Room Signature Bread which comes with whipped white butter and smoked sea salt, a Seafood Platter with sustainable caught seafood, and whipped cheese with green olives. Everything was fresh and delicious! Very high quality. My favourite would have to be the whipped cheese and green olives. Soo delicious!
For the new entrees, I went with the Sunworks farms chicken which comes with Barbeque parsnip puree, chicken skin, glazed romanesco, and chermoula. Tender, and delicious! I really enjoyed this and the parsnip puree. Overall very good and beautifully plated.
The other entree we got was the aged rib eye. This comes with Triple fried potatoes, grilled trumpet mushroom, spring vegetables, and smoked corn ketchup. The cook on my steak was great and medium rare throughout. Tender and tasty. I really enjoyed the smoked corn ketchup which went nicely with the steak.
I didn’t get to try the Sacchetti but it was a table favourite. It is nut-free and vegetarian and comes with Black truffle & ricotta, spring corn puree, brown butter, and chive. It looked beautiful and so delicious! I regret not getting this, but I’ll just have to come back and give it a try 😊.
I really enjoyed my experience at the Fairmont. The menu items here are a little bit higher scale, but they are really trying to promote that they have something for everything. In the back, there is a Hotdog cart with more reasonable-priced items throughout the summer. They also had a dessert cart and S’mores! There were a lot of families and kids around the back enjoying the vibe and weather. The patio is a beautiful area so definitely come and check out the scenery and views.
