Back in March, I went to 1ST RND for the first time. It was the beginning of March Madness, and my friend wanted to watch the game, and suggested it. I thought it’d be a good chance to try one of their burgers, since they placed in Big 7 Travel’s list of The 50 Best Burgers in Canada.
I went to the Oliver Square location, the other being at West Edmonton Mall. I didn’t actually know that it was a local sports bar, only found in Edmonton, which was cool to know. I also didn’t know that their primary focus was burgers, with 20+ options burgers on their menu.
We opted to get the Mac & Cheese burger, The Heat, and their bacon cheese burger. All of them were quite good, but the one that took it away for me was the Mac & Cheese burger. It comes with their signature beef patty, topped with deep-fried macaroni and cheese, spicy ketchup, bacon, cheddar, lettuce, tomatoes, all on a cheese bun. Flavourful, delicious, and satisfying.
Some of the other pub fare we got were their fries, curly fries, poutine, wings, and their deep fried pickles. All of them were pretty standard fare. Deep-fried and delicious.
I will have to say, however, that their deep fried pickles are better than most other fried pickles I’ve had. I know, how much better could they really be, it’s just pickles, dipped in batter, then fried. I just really liked how the pickles were sliced, and then battered. It gave a really nice crunch and a good batter to pickle ratio.
For dessert, I had their seasonal mango-lime ice cream sandwich. I wasn’t expecting too much from the ice cream, given that it’s a pub. It did have a bit of an artificial taste.
Overall, I had a good time at 1ST RND. I don’t usually frequent Sports Bars, but I wouldn’t mind coming here again and trying some of their other burgers. They are definitely quite good, and you can even customize them to get exactly what you want.
