Last week I had the chance to try Northern Chicken. I had some of their chicken at Taste of Edmonton last year, and since then, I’ve always wanted to try out some of their other food.
I actually ordered their food via Foodora, but it still came hot and crispy. I opted to get their 3 peice chicken, the honey thyme cornbread, the dorito mac and cheese, and the spicy fried chicken sandwich and potato salad.
My favourite thing was the spicy fried chicken sandwich. This came with fried chicken breast, pickles, slaw, mayo, served on thick texas toast and a side of potato salad. The chicken was juicy and tender, and delicious. The pickles and slaw really complimented the chicken and it was very enjoyable to eat.
The potato salad side was just okay, but I liked their other sides a bit more.
The honey thyme cornbread was not my favourite. I generally really like cornbread but this was quite dry and needed a bit more flavour. I really liked the honey though, which gave it a nice sweetness.
The macaroni and cheese was pretty standard. The crushed doritos gave it a next texture. Overall a good side to go along with the chicken, but it lacked a wow-factor for me. I prefer the macaroni and cheese side from MEAT.
Lastly, the fried chicken was pretty good. It has a good crunch. I only got the hot, but I think I could have gone with the extra hot. The chicken was moist, well-seasoned, and enjoyable to eat. This comes with a side of coleslaw which helps cool down the heat and gives it a good contrast.
Overall, I enjoyed Nothern Chicken. It was good, but if I had to be honest, I think I’d prefer to eat the chicken from MEAT, or from Seoul Fried Chicken if I had to choose a fried chicken place. Not bad, but not my favourite. I don’t think my opinion would really change if I had eaten this at their actual location. Give them a try for yourself!
