I went to Kanu for the first time last week and was thoroughly impressed! They had invited me to come give it a try and I thought this was perfect since I’ve made a loose resolution this year to try and eat less meat.
It’s located right on Jasper so parking is limited to the street parking. It’s very accessible by transit and outside Corona LRT. The restaurant concept is based off of the cuisine of Matthew Kenney who has a Plant-Based restaurant in Los Angeles.

We started off with the Kimchi Dumplings. The shell is made from coconut meat and cilantro and the interior is pureed kimchi. The texture of the dumpling was really good and the kimchi really had a great texture. You can really taste the flavour of the coconut meat come out. Overall I was really impressed with this dish! It is plated beautifully and the flavours really work well together. It is a bit expensive at $15 for three dumplings so I would only get this occasionally or at least once to try. It really is good though so I would definitely recommend trying it.

Next we got one of the seasonal specials, the Kung Pao Cauliflower. This comes with different coloured cauliflower, topped with sesame. It was really beautiful and a great dish to share as well. Great flavours and cooked perfectly tender.

Lastly, our favourite dish, was the Spicy Udon Noodles. It comes with baked tofu, cashew hoisin sauce, spicy greens, and Togarashi cashews. This was a really good portion for $15! The cashew hoisin was rich and delicious and the dish had a really good level of spice. I would recommend this dish for first-time goers! Really tasty and a very good portion.
Overall, I really enjoyed my experience at Kanu. I will admit that I have only eaten a few entirely vegan meals but was thoroughly impressed by Kanu. I would definitely come back! They just recently launched a brunch as well which looks really good and promising. Give it a try!
