A couple weeks ago I went to BRU Coffee + Beer House to sample their new summer menu. It’s located on 119th Street and Jasper Avenue, so in terms of parking, there’s street parking along Jasper and some parking on the side street. I live relatively close so I opted to walk. I’ve been here a couple times for breakfast and for coffee and I’ve always had a good meal.

BRU does a good job of supporting local and I often see them have merchandise and goodies from local suppliers which is always a bonus! They often host live music at their venue as well!

First off was their Brown Butter Glazed popcorn. This is fresh popcorn topped with their housemade brown butter sauce and honey, dusted with a bit of cinnamon. This was a crowd favourite! Everyone really enjoyed it. It has a nice balance between savoury and sweet, and for $6, it’s a must-order in my opinion!

Along with their summer menu, is a few new summer cocktails. The cucumber cooler is a refreshing cocktail with fresh lime and mint. Really great on a hot summer day. I really enjoyed this! Another summer drink is their fruity red wine sangria. This is red wine, pomegranate juice, and fresh fruit. Also a very refreshing and delightful drink. I really enjoyed both of these!

Next, is their Roasted apple and chicken sandwich. This comes with grilled chicken, roasted apple, Harvarti cheese, and mixed greens served on a 12-grain bun. They are really trying to promote a healthy menu with wholesome ingredients! This sandwich is really good, and the apple gives it a good texture and an element of sweetness! Not featured is their smoked salmon sandwich. This comes with smoke salmon, avocado, red onion, mixed greenes, dill and cream cheese on a 12-grain bun. Out of the two sandwiches, the smoked salmon was definitely my favourite. So much flavour that all work really well together.

BRU also offers a variety of salads as well, to help promote a healthy lifestyle. We were able to try the kale crunch salad. This comes with crispy kale, apple, toasted almonds, parmesan, cranberries, and served with a brown butter dressing. Everything including the dressing is made in house! I’m not a huge fan of Kale, but all the ingredients were able to cut away at the bitterness of the kale and it was quite pleasant to eat.

Lastly, we ended the night with some apple crumble. Again, everything is house made. This tastes just like apple crumble that I make at home! Not too sweet, and just the perfect combination of crunch from the crumble and tartness from the apples.

Overall, I had a good time at BRU. The prices are very reasonable, and it’s a really good place to catch up with a friend or grab a quick bite to eat!
