A couple of weeks ago, I went to District for Brunch. I’ve been multiple times for some coffee and pastries, but never for brunch, so I figured it was time since I live so close. They serve brunch on weekends from 9-4, and we had a late start in the day so we went around 2:30-3. It’s right on 109th street, so for parking, there is a lot of street parking on weekends.
The interior is very bright and well lit, with a very white and clean motif. It’s very open and clear, and has a very cool vibe. Very popular place to grab a coffee and hang out.
From all of the times that I’ve been here for coffee and a treat, the quality of the pastries have kind of been hit/miss for me.

The scones/cookies have all been very good, but the croissants have been lower in quality.

For my brunch, I decided to go with the Waffle Benny, and Jamie went with the Breakfast bowl. The breakfast bowl comes with roast potatoes, sunflower sprouts, cherry tomatoes, manchego, poached egg topped with a lemon hollandaise. The waffle benny comes with liège waffle, bacon, poached eggs and topped with their lemon hollandaise.

Jamie opted to get bacon added to his breakfast bowl for extra. Our breakfasts were very similar in toppings and flavour. If you just swap out the waffle for the potatoes, they were pretty much identical. The potatoes were pretty standard, cooked thoroughly, and overall, enjoyable. My waffle seemed premade and just reheated.
I know we came pretty late to their brunch service, but there was still an hour and a half before the end of their service. That being said, we both found that our bacon was quite hard. Not even crispy, it was just tough, and in general, not very enjoyable to eat. It was as if it’d been sitting out for a while. The lemon hollandaise was not bad, but had a very strong lemon flavour that wasn’t balanced out by any of our other ingredients in my opinion.
Overall, my brunch experience at District was a bit disappointing. I’ve read some really good reviews, so I’m assuming that they must have been having an off day, or that maybe I came at a bad time (near the end of brunch service). I’d recommend giving it a try, or at the very least trying a pastry and coffee! Still worth a try.
