Amore Pasta (Downtown)

Amore Pasta comes to you from the minds behind Cafe Amore Bistro and Black Pearl, and is a more casual/build-your-own-pasta concept. It’s located in the MNP tower downtown, and is a great addition for Italian pasta options that’s quick and easy. Parking wise, there are impark lots around, and accessible by transit.

Think Subway or Blaze pizza meets pasta. There are over a dozen pasta sauces to choose from, and everything is very customizeable. A link to their menu is here. If you’re having difficulties deciding, you can opt to get one of their signature creations. I was invited to come give it a try, and the downtown location is set to open on January 7th (with its south location already currently open).

For their signature pastas, we got the Amore Classic Pasta, Baked Pasticcio, Baked Gorgonzola, Sicilian Pasta, and Mediterranean Vegetarian.

Amore Classic

The Amore Classic was our table’s least favourite. It comes with a Sambuca Rose sauce, Mushrooms, Green Onion, Chicken. The flavour wasn’t too bad, but it was just a bit on the sweet side. I definitely know some people who would really like this sauce though, and it fits their model where people can really customize and cater to their tastes.

The favourites at the table were the baked pasta. The Baked pasticcio comes with a Bolognese rose sauce, mozzarella, and sausage. Really good and described to us to be akin to a ‘pizza pasta’ which it did resemble. The other favourite was the baked Gorgonzola which comes with gorgonzola cream, mushrooms, and chicken. The sauce is quite rich but overall very good. All of the portions are quite large so it’d be easy to share one pasta for two people, or more realistically, two pastas for three people.

The Sicilian Pasta was one of my favourites, which comes with Marsala cream, beef, roasted corn, mushrooms, roasted eggplant, and green onions. Along with the model of trying to cater to everyone’s taste, they have parmesan cheese and chili flakes on the side so that people who choose, can add a bit of spice to their dishes. The chili flakes went really well with this dish.

Mediterranean Vegetarian

Lastly was the Mediterranean vegetarian which comes with Aglio e Olio, red onion, black olives, artichoke hearts, sundried tomatoes, feta. Overall, the flavours were okay but I found the sauce to be a bit on the bland side. This dish could have used something to boost the flavour.

Omelette with Smoked Salmon

They also have breakfast options here, which we got to sample. This is the smoked salmon omelette. This was pretty good! The texture of the egg was good and the salmon was just right.

Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. It’s a quick and easy option for lunch for people who work Downtown. Akin to their sister restaurant. Cafe Amore Bistro, the portions here are quite large! I would definitely come back for their baked pasta, or to build my own. There are so many ingredients to choose from, the options are endless.

  1. […] Amore Pasta is opening its second location downtown at 10235 101 Street on January 7, 2019. From the folks behind Cafe Amore and Black Pearl, this quick-serve eatery will offer made-to-order pastas from a selection of sauces, vegetables, and proteins. Interestingly enough, they’ll also be open for breakfast during the week; Amore Pasta is open weekdays from 8am-9pm and on weekends from 11am-9pm. Leduc has a preview of what to expect. […]
