Cafe Bicyclette is located in the French Quarter of Edmonton. There are a lot of francophone people in this area, and the Faculté St. Jean as well. I’ve been here a number of times, and it always so neat to be in an area where you can hear so much French. There is ample amount of parking, they have a little parkade and also there is street parking. During summer, they have a really nice patio area and it almost doubles their capacity!

Most, if not all, of the staff speaks French, so if you’re feeling brave, you can try practicing your French and order in French! I am actually fluent in French, taking an immersion program from K-12, and then some courses in University. Admittedly, I am a bit rusty, but still occasionally muster the courage to order in French when I go. On this occasion, I opted to order an Americano, the French Toast, and the Savoury Crepe.

The Americano was pretty standard, I’m not sure where they get their bean from, but it was nice and strong. What I really enjoyed though was the little peppermint chocolate that we get with our drink. I really like these nice little surprises when I order coffee! Like the little meringues that come with coffee at Cafe Linnea.

The French toast comes with ham and brie and topped with caramelized onions. It comes with a side of baby potatoes. The french toast itself was nice and fluffy. There was a bit too much caramelized onions for my taste. Eggs benedict is always my usual order, but I decided to venture and get something else. Good, but I would opt to get their eggs Benedict the next time because those flavours suit me more.

Our other dish, the savoury crepe, comes with smoked, double cream brie, spinach, pine nuts, and a side salad. Generous amounts of salmon, a delicious thin crepe, this was a really tasty dish. Overall, I enjoyed this dish more than the french toast, though both were not bad.

I really enjoy Cafe Bicyclette. Sunday brunches are always packed and I enjoy seeing the diverse people enjoying the French culture. It does feel like I’ve transported to Quebec. Lovely vibe and tasty food! Definitely give it a try (and the Poutine is really good here too!)
